This can be a very difficult time for both kids and parents, many changes occur during this time and at times this is where conflict also arises. I work with both parents and kids to make necessary changes in order to look to move forward with healthier relationships at home.
DDP for Adolescents
I am trained in DDP Level 1 and 2, Development Didactic Psychotherapy, and was trained by the founder of this theory Daniel Hughes. This type of therapy is extremely useful for clients who are in their childhood- adolescent years. This can be utilized individually or within family counseling scenarios. I typically see teens individually for a few sessions and incorporate family counseling once every few sessions, I also work with the parents individually as well to work on how best to help their child using DDP techniques.
This technique’s foundation is PACE (playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, empathy). Without these foundational practices the model argues that change cannot be sustained without the relationship becoming healthier and more attached.
Parent involvement
My view is that parents NEED to be involved in counseling with their children. This can look different in every family, there are many options for parent involvement, but your involvement is essential in my work with your child. There can be some fear about this involvement and what this looks like for your particular child, please feel free to discuss your concerns with me and we can develop a plan that will work for your child.
